Education
A war interrupts a childhood once. A lost education interrupts it for life.
waladi is a news agency, an organisation and a school. This is the school. We run learning where schooling has stopped, and we build the tools that make it possible to keep teaching when the building is gone.
Our remote learning model
The Relay.
The Relay is how waladi teaches. Our teachers reach children remotely, over whatever connection they have, and offline when there is none. We keep teaching until a child can explain the subject, then they pass it on to the children around them. Every student becomes the next teacher, so one lesson keeps moving long after the call ends.
How the Relay works
Four steps between a closed school and a child who can teach
We do not wait for a building or for local staff. We teach the children ourselves, remotely, and we keep teaching until they can pass the subject on to the child next to them.
01
Find the children
Our regional teams map who has dropped out, street by street, and why. Nobody is enrolled from a spreadsheet alone.
02
Teach them remotely
Lessons reach the child wherever they already are, over whatever connection exists, and offline when none does.
03
Teach until they can explain it
We do not stop at a passing mark. We keep going until a student understands a subject well enough to teach it back.
04
They teach the next child
Every student who reaches that point becomes a teacher for children around them. One class turns into many without waiting for us.
Apply to be a teacher
Teach one child and you teach the next thirty.
We are recruiting volunteer teachers, curriculum writers, translators and engineers to teach remotely across every region we work in.

The innovation team
The people who work out how to teach a child with no classroom and no signal
Our innovation team sits inside the education programme rather than beside it. Every tool they build is tested in a live remote class before it goes anywhere near a launch.
Chief Innovation Officer
Gabriella El Hage
Leads the team that designs how waladi teaches: the timetable that survives displacement, the materials that work without electricity, and the training that turns a student into a teacher.
Chief Technology Officer
Marc Sfeir
Builds the technology that carries the teaching: remote lessons over almost no bandwidth, offline delivery when there is none, and a learning record a child can keep when everything else is left behind.
What they are building
The offline classroom
A full term of lessons that loads once and then runs with no connection at all.
The portable record
Proof of what a child has learned that survives a border crossing and a lost document.
The student teacher's kit
Everything a student needs to start teaching the children around them once they have finished a subject.
